"Small market leading company"
Yokota Manufacturing Co. (Production and distribution of defoaming/degassing

Success through expanding the possibilities of pumps
The following is a summary of the article "Small market leading company",
featured in the Nikkei Business magazine, Aug. 22, 2005 issue.

A pump that removes bubbles and gas from liquid food products has cornered
the Japanese domestic market.
Yokota has discovered new markets while always aiming to develop products
that have yet to make an appearance on the market.
Yokota develops its materials in-house and has expanded the capability
of pumps into various market sectors.
Gas and bubbles dissolved in liquid are extremely troublesome for factories
handling liquid food products. This is because the liquid inside the product
charging devices clogs, and liquid measurement becomes inaccurate. Dissolved
gas in milk or fruit juice promotes oxidation, resulting in degradation
of freshness and flavor.
To avoid these negative effects, conventional defoaming/degassing devices
have been available, however, the common defoaming/degassing method was
to transfer liquid to large tanks and wait until the bubbles disappeared
and gas dissipated naturally. Another method that saves defoaming/degassing
time is by controlling the holding tank interior close to near-zero vacuum
conditions to forcefully remove gasses dissolved in liquid, however, there
is a limit to the time-savings.
Under these circumstances, a device that could perform continuous defoaming/degassing
using a pump was released in 2000. The pump can perform at a rate of up
to 4000 liters per hour, and this has undoubtedly attracted the attention
of the food industry.
Creation of new markets through applied technologies

Yokota has been undergoing business negotiations with more than 100 companies,
mainly food manufacturers, and has already delivered pumps to 10 companies.
Recently, Yokota has successively delivered pumps to aquariums that recirculate
water in the water tanks. Half of the aquariums that have opened in recent
years, such as the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in 2002, and the Oita Marine
Palace Aquarium in 2004, have adopted Yokota products. One of the difficulties
with aquariums is that seawater is one of the most difficult liquids for
pumps to handle because it contains various substances besides salt and
minerals. Enhanced pump performance is a prerequisite at aquariums where
any number of precious fish and sea animals are raised. This added high
performance at aquariums is a direct example of Yokota's development capability.
Yokota's position of continuing to produce products that have yet to make
an appearance on the market remains unchanged.
Yokota is expected to produce even more new products, striving towards
product development in the belief of the immense possibilities of pumps.
